Death, Taxes and Wills
We have all heard the saying by Benjamin Franklin, 'Nothing is certain except death and taxes' and yet it amazes me how many people I see that have not got planning in place. We all know that everyone should have a Will, but two out of three people have not yet made one, and then you find that those that have - probably have not got the correct Will in place. Statistics tell us that nearly 70,000 people are selling their homes to pay for care. A large proportion of inheritances are lost in future divorce settlements, bankruptcy or to creditors and unnecessary taxation. There are a number of ways that your home, savings and business are vulnerable. If you own a business your partner and children may not inherit your share of that business. Irrespective of your age or the value of your estate, making a Will and putting affairs in order is one of the most important things you can do.
